Step Aboard The Rhum Tavern

A modern love story of rum, in an old-world setting.

A modern love story of rum, in an old-world setting.

Gather ’round, friends, and let me tell you a tale. Not of buried treasure or lost galleons, but of how a band of dreamers built something rather extraordinary in the heart of Fitzrovia.

The Spark That Started It All

Picture this: 1985. A scrappy gang of misfits called the Goonies stumble upon a charred treasure map that leads them to One-Eyed Willy’s legendary ship, The Inferno. You remember that feeling, don’t you? That sense that magic is real, that adventure is waiting just around the corner, that the impossible might just be possible after all.

Well, that’s where our story begins.

We couldn’t shake it—that longing for discovery, for wonder, for stepping through a door and finding yourself somewhere entirely different. So we asked ourselves: what if we could bottle that feeling? What if we could build a place where you leave the London streets behind and find yourself aboard a pirate ship from the golden age of rum?

Madness, perhaps. But the best ideas usually are.

Plotting the Course

Every great voyage starts with a map. Ours began with late nights, strong coffee, and pencil sketches scattered across the table. We drew curved hull walls, candlelit alcoves, and a glowing rum wall that looked like treasure itself.

There it was – our vision taking shape. The storefront on Margaret Street in Fitzrovia that would become The Rhum Tavern.

We sketched and re-sketched, dreaming of a ship’s hold where you could lose yourself for an evening. Or three.

Raising The Hull

Then came the real work, chums. Paper became timber. Ideas became lanterns. Dreams became sawdust, sweat, and the satisfying thud of wood fitting into place.

Watching those sketches transform into reality was something special. The curved walls rose like a ship’s hull. The barrels rolled in. The bar began to gleam with promise.

And then – oh, this was the moment – we lit the candles for the first time.

There she was. The Rhum Tavern, alive at last. Warm wood glowing in the candlelight, hundreds of bottles shimmering like amber and gold, and that unmistakable feeling – like you’d just discovered something secret and wonderful.

We’d done it. We’d brought The Inferno to Fitzrovia.

The Captain’s Quarters

Now, here’s where it gets rather special. Tucked away at the back of the tavern, beyond velvet drapes and flickering chandeliers, you’ll find The Captain’s Quarters.

It’s an intimate hideaway where candles burn low and stories grow tall. Dark wood, soft light, and just enough privacy for plotting your next adventure or celebrating your last one. Perfect for secret gatherings, private hire, special occasions, or simply escaping the world for a while.

Our Philosophy, If You Will

We believe rum deserves the same respect you’d give a fine whisky or aged wine. It’s not just a spirit – it’s a story. A journey. A craft.

That’s why we’ve assembled a collection of over 350 rums from across the Caribbean and beyond. From bold new pioneers like 2 Drifters to legendary names like Worthy Park and Planteray. Each bottle hand-selected, each pour purposeful, each glass custom-made just for us.

This is a cocktail bar, through and through. We’re here to share the experience – to guide you through the world of rum, drink by drink, story by story.

Your Adventure Begins Here
